What better way to spend Jazz Appreciation Day than at 4th Floor Live?
SANCTUARY is a dynamic supergroup of Columbus musicians that pays homage to the “electric” period of Miles Davis. Led by drummer Tony McClung, the band has played once/twice a year since 2013 and the lineup has been different every single time; from acclaimed Detroit trumpeter Dwight Adams, to local legends Bobby Floyd, James Gaiters, and Michael Cox, to younger musicians Zakk Jones and Willie Barthel. This connecting of generations adds to the melting pot of music that influenced this era of Davises’ music. With tinges of motown, free jazz, fusion, funk, hard bop and world music, the songs take on a new meaning in every performance, relying equally on space, patience, fire and chance-taking.
