1988 – 1989 Season

The Jazz Arts Group’s 1988-1989 season, “On the Air” continued the orchestra’s great traditions and brought in new guest artists as well. The season started with the return of Terry Gibbs to the Columbus audience. The fifth installment of “The Count and The Duke” featured Harold Jones on drums. Benny Carter made an appearance in a tribute concert to Buddy Rich. J. J. Johnson returns to Columbus for the first time after his 20 year semi-retirement as a trombone player. Finally, the annual Stan Kenton tribute concert features the Four Freshman in the same way the Kenton band did on their tour together in the late 50’s.
