R Lawrence Jenkins has been entertaining audiences in Columbus and abroad for decades. After he stopped touring nationally with theatrical performances such as “Our Young Black Men are Dying and Nobody Seems to Care”, He continued to perform regionally – recently seen in DREAMGIRLS at Short North Stage – and various Film, television, and commercial projects. He also continues to sing with with various popular groups, which provided him the honor of working with Grammy-winning artists New York Voices, Dionne Warwick, Bill Summers and Jon Hendricks.
The R Lawrence Project – a sultry mix of straight ahead Jazz, Soul, and R&B Classics. Rich Baritone vocals with only the best musicians in Central Ohio (Eric Augis, Andy Woodson, Tony Bonardi, Pete Mills), the RL Project covers a list of songs that go from Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole to Stevie Wonder and John Legend – then add some songs that few can master, such as Luther Vandross, Will Downing, and Ray Charles. Whether its a intimate performance as a duet or a full “concert” band, this is a group that mixes a combination of intricate soulful harmonies, dynamic musical arrangements, and raw energy to bring you one of the most exciting and enjoyable performances Columbus has ever seen.
