The Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are a community-focused, curated jam session series held the second Tuesday of each month in the Jazz Academy. Jazz musicians of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the jam. Each session will have a theme with a list of tunes that will be drawn from.
This jam will draw from popular traditional jazz tunes heard by famous artists such as Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith. You can view lead sheets for all tunes here.
- Struttin’ With Some Barbecue
- Dinah
- I Found A New Baby
- Just A Closer Walk
- When The Saints Go Marching In
- It Don’t Mean A Thing
- Basin Street Blues
- St. Louis Blues
Participants will learn the ins and outs of small-group jamming, including tools for band leading and successful improvisation. Led by some of Columbus’ finest musicians, the Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are an inclusive, engaging jam environment for all. We also invite non-musicians to come participate as audience members of the jam.
