The Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are a community-focused, curated jam session series held the second Tuesday of each month in the Jazz Academy. Jazz musicians of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the jam. Each session will have a theme with a list of tunes that will be drawn from.
This jam will feature famous tunes from pianist, composer and arranger Horace Silver. Silver was a predominant figure in the hard bop era, writing tunes that combined strong, memorable melodies with blues-influenced harmony. He also was a pioneering member of the influential group, The Jazz Messengers. Lead sheets for all tunes are available here!
- Song For My Father
- Sister Sadie
- Señor Blues
- Silver’s Serenade
- Peace
- Gregory Is Here
House Band: Jon Eshelman (pianist, leader) Bryan Olsheski (saxophone) Josh Newburry (bass) Antoine Fatout (drums).
Participants will learn the ins and outs of small-group jamming, including tools for band leading and successful improvisation. Led by some of Columbus’ finest musicians, the Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are an inclusive, engaging jam environment for all. We also invite non-musicians to come participate as audience members of the jam.
