The Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are a community-focused, curated jam session series held the second Tuesday of each month in the Jazz Academy. Jazz musicians of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the jam. Each session will have a theme with a list of tunes that will be drawn from.
This jam will feature beloved Great American Songbook tunes made famous by Ella Fitzgerald in her records The Ella Fitzgerald Songbook albums. These albums, released between 1956-1964 featured compositions by famous composers like Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Duke Ellington and more. Participants will learn the ins and outs of small-group jamming, including tools for band leading and successful improvisation. Led by some of Columbus’ finest musicians, the Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are an inclusive, engaging jam environment for all. We also invite non-musicians to come participate as audience members of the jam.
