For “Swingin’ in the New Year,” internationally renowned trumpet virtuoso and Columbus Jazz Orchestra Artistic Director, Byron Stripling, will lead his quartet and the 17 members of the Jazz Arts Group’s Columbus Community Jazz Band in a rousing year-end musical celebration filled with holiday favorites, jazz standards, blues and gospel.
This is a great opportunity to hear Byron step outside of his usual role as leader of the 16-piece CJO and perform in the much more intimate “jazz quartet” setting, featuring Bobby Floyd (piano/organ), Larry Cook (bass) and Rich Thompson (drums).
The days after Christmas offer the perfect opportunity to get out of the house, wipe the cornbread stuffing off your chin, reflect on the past 12 months and Swing In The New Year. With the help of a quartet of musicians, including pianist/organist Bobby Floyd, Byron Stripling will present a dynamic concert filled with jazz standards, blues, and gospel. This joyous event is guaranteed to put a song in your heart and a smile on your face!
