The Jazz Academy Jam Sessions are a community-focused, curated jam session series held the second Tuesday of each month in the Jazz Academy October 2022-May 2023. Jazz musicians of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in the jam. Each session will have a theme with a list of tunes that will be drawn from.
Participants will learn the ins and outs of small-group jamming, including tools for bandleading and successful improvisation. Led by some of Columbus’ finest musicians, the Jazz Academy Jam Session is an inclusive, engaging jam environment for all. We also invite non-musicians to come participate as audience members of the jam.
In this jam, we will play standards frequently performed by jazz vocalists and discuss methods for melodic interpretation and improvisation.
COVID 19 Policy: At this time, our COVID-19 protocols, including the use of masks, bell covers, and social distancing have been suspended. We encourage each participant to use their judgment as to the use of these protective measures. We reserve the right to reinstate these protocols in response to community spread of COVID-19. We strongly encourage all teaching artists and participants to receive their COVID-19 vaccination(s) to best protect themselves and the community.
