Community Jazz: Logan Moore & Jerrod Shackelford Big Band

January 4 @ 8:00 pm

Jerrod and Logan are rising talents as saxophonists and arrangers in the central Ohio area. For this show, they’ve put together an all-star big band to play their own arrangements and compositions, heavily influenced by the music of Stan Kenton, Count Basie, and Terry Gibbs.

Jerrod Shackelford is Columbus’s premiere engineer-by-day, musician-by-night. Having performed with jazz and pop legends like Carmen Bradford, John Fedchock, Darius Rucker, and The Hughes Corporation, Shackelford is no stranger to the stage. While earning his Chemical Engineering and Jazz Composition degrees from The Ohio State University, Shackelford specialized in writing for jazz orchestra, taking heavy influence from Sammy Nestico and Alan Baylock. Since graduating, Shackelford has been commissioned to compose and arrange for The Ohio State University, Sinclair Community College, and the University of Dayton.

A recent graduate from the University of North Texas, Logan is a rising talent in the Ohio jazz scene. Even before graduating high school, he had opportunities to play in professional bandsled by Vaughn Wiester and Rick Brunetto, as well as being a featured soloist with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra after winning the Hank Marr Jazz Award. Since graduating and moving back to Columbus, Logan has kept busy performing with big bands such as Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, Rick Brunetto’s Big Band, and the Artistic Jazz Orchestra, as well as small groups such as Invisible Lights Quartet, Hot Tonic, Largemouth Brass Band, and Waves De Aché. Logan has also performed in a number of pit orchestras for local musical productions. Some of these productions include The Addams Family, Legally Blonde, Newsies, and Wild Party.

Aside from performing, Logan is also an active arranger. Not only does he arrange for many different sized ensembles, since the summer of 2019, he has been recording these arrangements on saxophone and uploading weekly to YouTube. These videos have since gained the attention and admiration of musicians such as Jacob Collier, Alex Hahn, and Saxologic. Logan currently has 3 albums released, Merry Saxmas Vol. 1, 2, and 3.
