On December 28th participants will experience a full day of intense immersion into the music of Count Basie. After receiving three authentic Count Basie chart’s in advance, participants will be coached by the Basie alumni with a focus on articulation, style, and mastery of the unique concepts of Basie’s swing. Additionally, Count Basie alumni Stripling, Thompson and Floyd will share historic gems about their Basie years on the bandstand, hilarious stories of endless one-nighters and the joyous experience of backing up singers and artists like Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughn, and Johnny Mathis. After dinner, the day will end with a Count Basie styled jam session, full of the energy, passion and inspiration of that era.
This one-of-a-kind experience culminates on December 29th with YOU performing three of Count Basie’s classic charts with these Basie alumni, on stage at the Lincoln Theater, as part of the “Swingin’ in the New Year Concert.”
