All That Jazz 4th Grade Curriculum

The 18-piece Columbus Jazz Orchestra introduces the magic of jazz in a concert tailored especially for 4th and 5th grade students. The CJO will play big band jazz standards and demonstrate elements of jazz in a lively and interactive concert. The historic Southern Theatre serves as the perfect venue for this special performance, giving students a unique concert experience like no other! Our goal is to serve over 5,000 4th grade students in the Columbus metropolitan area with this program as they prepare to choose their own musical instrument in the coming years. 

Prior to the concert, each teacher will receive interactive curriculum materials, including slides, videos, and audio recordings. Topics will include:

  • Birth of Jazz
  • The Blues
  • Improvisation
  • Swing
  • The Jazz Orchestra
  • Bebop and Latin Jazz

This year’s All That Jazz concert dates are:

October 10, 10:15am
December 4: 10:15am
December 5: 10:15am and 12:15pm 
February 13: 10:15am 
March 20:  10:15am

Step 1: Please share dates with and secure written approval from your school administrator to attend an All That Jazz Concert, then forward approval to agerhard@columbus.k12.oh.us. 

Step 2: Fill out the registration form below to select your first, second, and third date options:

* You MUST have approval from your school administrator in order to be scheduled for a field trip date *

Step 3: Follow THIS LINK to access the digital folder which contains the updated Google slides, a teacher curriculum guide, playlists, and a Know Before You Go document to help prepare your students for the field trip concert experience.

Step 4: You and your school administrator will receive an email confirmation from Unified Arts confirming your scheduled field trip date/time.
