Marva Hicks is a versatile singer actress.  A native of Petersburg, VA, she grew up singing in her grandfather’s church. 

Marva Hicks set out to peruse her love of the theatre by attending Howard University, where she received her BFA, cum laude.

Her career on the Broadway stage includes roles in Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, Rafiki in The Lion King, The Radio in Caroline or Change, and a feature as Gladys Knight in Motown the Musical.  She appeared in the Off-Broadway productions of, Cabin in the Sky, (City Center, Encores), Little Shop of Horrors (City Center Encores-off Center), The First Breeze of Summer, (Signature Theatre). In Regional Theatre she was Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast (The Muny), Glory in Thunder Knocking on the Door (Arena Stage, Helen Hayes Award), Etta Mae in the Women of Brewster Place (Alliance, Suzi Award) Sophisticated Ladies and Bess in the Blues and Jazz adaptation of Porgy and Bess (Zach Scott Theatre, B. Iden Payne Award). Marva’s TV and Film credits include, Star Trek: Voyager, House of cards, Daredevil, Search Party, Assunder, and Labor Day. Marva has toured the world as a backing vocalist for Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Whitney Houston.

Currently she is on a nation-wide symphony pops orchestra tour of “Louis and Ella and All That Jazz” with the incredible Byron Stripling.  She is a proud member of Broadway Inspirational Voices, a 501c organization, made up of Broadway performers, dedicated to service to those who have need through the healing and unifying power of music.
