He earned a bachelor’s degree at the Ohio State University and a master’s degree at the North Texas State University. After two years of touring with the Woody Herman Orchestra he settled in New York City. There he worked in various musical settings most notably nearly ten years touring and recording with the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. Jim returned to Columbus in 1995 and first began playing with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra in 2008.
