In his role as librarian, Alex is responsible for organizing and maintaining the vast Jazz Arts Group music collection, which includes both written and recorded materials. In addition, Alex is responsible for communicating with composers and arrangers, acquisition and preparation of new music, preparation of music for upcoming performances, and providing support services for the orchestra members. Alex also serves as production assistant for all CJO shows at the Southern Theatre. As Youth Jazz Program Coordinator, Alex oversees the execution of the youth jazz program, which includes preparation of music materials, rehearsal set-up, student correspondence, event scheduling/execution, and social media/marketing efforts. He also functions as the main line of communication between parents/students and the Artistic Director/Director of Education and Community Engagement.
Alex is an active member of the Columbus jazz community as a performer, teacher, and composer, and bandleader. He frequently performs on various Columbus stages with a variety of jazz, rock, and latin bands, and is featured on a number of recordings both as a sideman, and as a featured soloist. He is a founding member of the group, “Liver Quiver”as well as, “Small Songs.” He is also a scholar of the music of Ornette Coleman, whose music is the inspiration for his band “Free Jazz Hit Parade.”
