Pianist/vocalist Dan Rowan was born in Dayton, but there is no doubt that “it all started for him in Cambridge, Ohio.”

From grade school to high school this community provided great opportunities for Dan to nurture his talents. His first performance at age six with The Cambridge Singers was in his local theater. Growing up in  Cambridge gave Dan a rich appreciation and love of music.

In his freshman year of high school, Rowan moved with his parents to Gallipolis, Ohio. There he concentrated on classical piano study, but he didn’t miss any opportunities to absorb every bit of jazz and pop music that he heard.

Dan attended Capital University and spent his college summers  performing at Disney World and Cedar Point. He graduated from Capital in 1982 with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance. Rowan immediately “hit the road” with the Shellie Jacobs Band, and followed that up with a band of his own called The Fez.

After two years traveling with bands, Rowan settled again in Columbus. He enjoyed nearly twenty years as the house pianist/vocalist at The Hyatt on Capitol Square. During that time he was able to play many other select engagements throughout the Midwest as well as an impressive six month engagement in Asia for Ritz-Carlton Hotels.

Dan Rowan recorded his first jazz album, Cafe Concert in 1988. His second recording, Take A Chance was released in 1993. And finally, a Christmas recording called This Christmas was finished in 1998. He is currently working on a fourth recording project of original music.

Rowan is presently performing at G. Michael’s Bistro, Smith & Wollensky’s, The Hyatt on Capitol Square, and various private functions. He is also a member of the Columbus band Fortune.

Dan lives in a happy home in Columbus, Ohio with his wife, Kathleen and his son, Patrick.
