Columbus Youth Jazz Girls Project

March 10, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Columbus Youth Jazz Girls Project is a month-long music-making program that celebrates female musicians who are dedicated to their music. During each rehearsal, we will develop our skills as an ensemble while exploring jazz improvisation and soloing, creating a fun and encouraging space for students to build confidence and courage. Featuring special guest artists and educators, the CYJ Girls Project will focus on musical topics such as jazz improvisation, ensemble techniques, and important females in jazz history. We’ll also explore non-musical topics such as developing confidence, becoming a leader in your school music program and more.

The CYJ Girls Project is open to female (and female-identified) instrumentalists in grades 7-12 with a minimum of two years experience on their instrument. During the first session, a brief informal placement audition will be held to help us configure the ensemble most appropriately.

Rehearsal Schedule:

Dates: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31

Times: 6-8pm

Location: Jazz Academy – 769 E. Long St (4th Floor) Columbus, OH 43203
