1997 – 1998 Season

In the 1997-1998 season, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra presented two series of exciting guest artists. The Capitol Theatre series included Peter Erskine and Kelly Delaveris, Cavril Payne and Carmen Bradford, James Moody and Tia Roseboro, Arturo Sandoval, and Hank Marr with Frank Foster. The Palace Theatre series included Rosemary Clooney, the Four Freshman, Four Aces, and the Ink Spots, and a Broadway concert with Joel Grey.

Beginning his career with the big bands of Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson, Erskine has driven the contemporary bands Weather Report and Steely Dan with his energetic drumming. We dusted off the Kenton library to do a few of Stan’s favorites! ROSEMARY CLOONEY

At age 16 she was the featured singer with Tony Pastor’s band. A string of hit singles followed including “Come On A My House” along with a starring role opposite Bing Crosby in the movie White Christmas. Acclaimed as the greatest female singer of the last half century, she was still going strong at the ripe young age of 66. Rosemary Clooney was the perfect beginning for our Palace Season.
