Where in the World is Reggie Jackson?
One of Jazz in School’s teaching artists, Reggie Jackson, made a strong connection with fourth graders in a Columbus City School. He had attended that school in the second and third grades and now he travels worldwide as a professional percussionist. From November 7 until December 7 he toured through eight countries: United States, Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Spain, Italy, Austria, and Turkey. Through technology, Reggie stayed in touch with the students of his former school.
It’s always valuable when young people make a connection with adults who are successful in their chosen field. Reggie’s professional approach and “real stories” about “real life” give the students a sense of hope for their own future. The process and impact of this project is reflected in the teacher’s comments.
