Jazz Arts Group (JAG) is always looking for motivated and passionate young people to join our team to help support top quality jazz programming in Columbus. JAG is now offering internship tracks for specific areas of interest. The tracks offered are Education Intern and Marketing & Production Intern. Please read the internship descriptions below for more information.

JAG Intern Overview

  • Internship opportunities are best suited for (but not limited to) students who are Music and Business, Music Performance, Music Education, or Bachelor of Arts (with a concentration in music) majors. The internship is also appropriate for young professionals seeking experience with non-profit arts organizations.
  • JAG internships are non-paid.
  • JAG Interns will have the opportunity to learn about Jazz Arts Group during the exciting fall season. The interns will work hands on with the Education Director, Education Program Manager, Marketing Director, Development Director, Orchestra Manager, Librarian and will be given a “behind the scenes” experience in the arts nonprofit world.
  • Professional experience will include: office and clerical duties, working with guest artists, assisting the Marketing Director at events, attending staff meetings, attending rehearsals/sound checks and performances of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, selling merchandise for guest artists, and assisting with Education programs including summer camps, PBJ and Jazz, community outreach programs, summer jazz festival performances, jam sessions and more.

Requirements

  1. JAG Interns must have the ability to lift 25 pounds or more.
  2. JAG Interns must send a letter of recommendation from their current college music professor or advisor to Rachel Azbell at razbell@jazzartsgroup upon applying for a JAG internship.
  3. JAG Interns should be able to exhibit an extremely high work ethic as demonstrated by grade point average, letter of recommendation, and work experience.
  4. JAG Interns will create a personal statement (minimum of 300 words) describing how they feel this opportunity would benefit their career goals.

Mandatory Events: Attend Youth Jazz rehearsals, 12-6pm on Sundays in addition to select programs on a need/want basis as added to the calendar. There will be mandatory office hours of at least 1 day a week (morning – midday availability).

Marketing & Production Intern

Please note: these dates are for our Spring 2024 internship and will be updated soon for Summer 2024.

Mandatory Events: Preferably the Marketing & Production Intern attends all concert dates if available. Must be able to attend the Lincoln Theatre Concert. Must be able to attend all Southern Theatre Concert series with minimum 2 nights per series. Dates listed below. There will be mandatory office hours of at least 1 day a week (morning – midday availability).
