Central Ohio guitarist Tim Cummiskey performs as both a leader and a sideman throughout the Midwest. Cummiskey currently leads several groups ranging from solo jazz and classical guitar to group configurations including duos, The Tim Cummiskey Trio, and the Tim Cummiskey Quartet.
As a sideman, Cummiskey has performed and/or conducted clinics with John Abercrombie, Howard Alden, Carl Allen, Gene Bertoncini, Chris Buzzelli, Benny Golson, Tim Hagans, Ingrid Jensen, Hank Marr and Frank Vignola. Tim also regularly works with veteran Ohio musicians including Vince Andrews, Chris Berg, Paul Brown, Tom Carroll, Jimmy Cook, Bobby Floyd, Don Hales, Jeff Halsey, Ola Hanson, Jim Masters, Tony Monaco, Gene Parker, Kim Pensyl, Dave Powers, Guy Remonko, Russ Schmidt, Stan Smith, Gene Walker and others.
In addition, Cummiskey has conducted clinics at the annual convention of the International Association of Jazz Educators, Bowling Green State University, The Ohio State University, Capital University, Denison University and Kenyon College.
His first recording as a leader, Alone Together on the Cojazz label, features Chris Berg on bass and Jim Rupp on drums. He has also appeared on numerous recordings as a sideman.
Cummiskey currently serves as a member of the Jazz Studies faculty of The Ohio State University School of Music and the music faculty of Kenyon College. Cummiskey is also a contributing writer to DownBeat magazine and Just Jazz Guitar magazine. He was also featured in 20th Century Guitar magazine.
After studying at Berklee College of Music in the early ’90s, he received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from Capital University in 1994. In 1996, Cummiskey received his Masters Degree in Guitar Performance from Bowling Green State University.
